The journey to vlayer v1.0 Mainnet began with a spark of inspiration during one of the brainstorming sessions between Marek and myself in late 2023, shortly after we both exited our previous ventures. On January 2nd, 2024, in a bustling Georgian restaurant in Warsaw, we officially decided to launch the groundwork for vlayer. By February, we secured the pre-seed funding, assembled a small but effective team, and dove deep into development, as core contributors of the vision. By May, the vision for vlayer v1.0 crystallized, laying the foundation for our path forward. Our entry into the a16z crypto CSX accelerator in September and the subsequent fall months in New York City accelerated both our technical and commercial efforts. Ever since, we have intensely focused on product development and laying down strategic commercial foundations, culminating in today’s milestone - the launch of vlayer Mainnet.
The past year and a half has been an incredible intellectual adventure that we will always remember fondly. This Mainnet launch marks just the beginning, vlayer v2.0 is already underway, and as core contributors of the vlayer vision we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead!
vlayer Mainnet introduces four smart contract features designed specifically to empower developers to build applications that win the hearts of billions of end users. With Time Travel, developers can seamlessly query and execute contracts against historical blockchain states, unlocking powerful new use cases in decentralized finance and beyond. Teleport simplifies cross-chain interactions, allowing developers to easily scale and deploy their smart contracts across multiple EVM-compatible networks without added complexity.
But perhaps most excitingly, developers now have straightforward, secure ways to integrate off-chain data directly into their applications. With Email Proofs (ZK Email) and Web Proofs (zkTLS), verifying emails and web content within smart contracts becomes as simple as a few lines of code, transforming previously impossible interactions into everyday reality. At vlayer, every feature is designed with one goal in mind: making smart contracts useful and relevant to the everyday lives of billions of users worldwide.
At the core of vlayer’s vision resides a robust, scalable architecture designed from the ground up with decentralization plans. This architecture is built around specialized nodes, i.e. provers, indexers, notaries, and proxies - each fulfilling a critical role in securely generating and verifying cryptographic proofs.
The vlayer system spans three carefully orchestrated environments: the end-user browser (JavaScript SDK and secure browser extension), high-performance Rust-based server infrastructure (handling heavy lifting of proof generation, indexing, and data source-specific notarization workflows), and Solidity-based blockchain contracts for final, secure on-chain verification. Importantly, the developer has a one stop shop interface via vlayer Dashboard that orchestrates the usage of the underlying features.
Even before Mainnet, vlayer’s capabilities resonated powerfully with developers, driving significant community growth and adoption. During our Testnet, 28,894 developers signed up to our waitlist, with a remarkable number of 15,625 unique accounts created. By incorporating user feedback, total active users steadily increased, reaching 3,849 in the first week of May. Of these, 2,079 were weekly active users as of May 8, 2025 - highlighting growing engagement and demonstrating the utility of vlayer’s solutions. The total count of ZK Proofs generated also showed robust week-over-week growth to 480,086 in the last week before v1.0 Mainnet, validating strong developer enthusiasm and readiness for our technology.
vlayer Mainnet signifies more than functionality, it represents trust and transparency. Our core technology has been extensively audited by external security experts at Veridise, reinforcing vlayer’s commitment to safety and reliability. Moreover, to further embrace transparency and collaboration, we are proud to announce that the core of vlayer v1.0 infrastructure and tooling has been published for any developer to review on vlayer’s GitHub repository, and will eventually be open-sourced. Our v1.0 uses a dual licensing model, in which vlayer Labs Ltd (core contributor of vlayer) is designated for commercialization, while the code is licensed to the general public under Business Source License (BSL) 1.1, which shall convert to the permissive MIT license after three years. This approach ensures that our technology remains accessible for broader community innovation, initially protecting project integrity while ultimately supporting widespread collaboration and adoption by developers across the globe.
From day one, vlayer’s technology is already adopted by multiple clients, integrating seamlessly into their core workflows. Specifically, we’re seeing traction across four enterprise-focused use cases:
To highlight these impactful collaborations in more detail, we’re excited to launch the 'Built with vlayer' series, where we'll present detailed insights into these partnerships and their groundbreaking results on the weekly basis.
To further fuel our mission of making smart contracts useful and relevant for billions, we are introducing the vlayer Builders Program, comprising several impactful initiatives designed to support developer growth and adoption:
Additionally, vlayer will host various community-driven initiatives, including both virtual and IRL events, such as developer meetups, hackathons, and the two-day Verifiable Summit conference planned for Q3 2025 in London. We will also be launching a Verified Ambassadors Program later in 2025 to further empower our global developer community.
vlayer v1.0 Mainnet marks an important milestone, but our team never slows down. We are already heads-down, working tirelessly on v2.0, which will further enhance the developer experience, boost end-user accessibility, and expand capabilities beyond today’s horizon. At vlayer, we move fast, dream big, and execute relentlessly, because the decentralized future will not be made by itself.
